Since the horrific and inhuman attacks on Israeli towns in the Western Negev on October 7, 2023, the administration and professional medical staff of Meuhedet Health Services and Misgav Ladach Hospital have been working around the clock to address critical medical needs. At this time of war, as attacks escalate along the northern border also, Meuhedet is providing a targeted response through three important projects:
Protective gear for medical teams in the field
More than 50 clinics situated in areas that are heavily bombarded with rocket fire are without shelters; therefore, they cannot be used to treat patients. In addition, because of rocket fire to Israel’s capital as well, Meuhedet’s community hospital in Jerusalem, Misgav Ladach, which is not a protected complex cannot operate its many clinics. In order to provide continuity of services despite the war, Meuhedet is sending healthcare teams to homes where necessary. These professionals need to be equipped with helmets and bullet-proof vests, especially in the south or when operating during attacks.
Cost of a single helmet/vest set: $1,500.
Quantity needed: 100 sets.
Total cost: $150,000
Emergency Hotline
Israel is coping with the worst trauma in its 75 years of history. Over 1600 people have been brutally murdered, including entire families, and 220 men, women and children have been taken hostage. The whole nation is shocked and in mourning, and families and loved ones are frantic with worry. Add to this incessant rocket fire throughout the day and night: Israelis are traumatized, anxious and stressed beyond words. In response, Meuhedet has established a 24/7 hotline, operated by psychologists and social workers who are coping with hundreds of calls. People who call in are provided with first aid on the phone, and also given the option of following up with three in person meetings with a mental health professional.
Given that the number of calls is increasing daily, the needs are growing as the country plunges deeper into this war, and that there are no “quick fixes” in situations like this, we want to continue this project for at least three months.
Total cost for establishing and operating the hotline for 3 months: $200,000
Free delivery of medicine.
With hundreds of rockets shot into Israel every day from Gaza and Lebanon, the government has instructed citizens not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary. Dozens of towns have been evacuated. Schools are closed and children are at home. It is critical that people are able to get the drugs they need without having to risk their lives. Therefore, Meuhedet is offering free delivery of medications. Since its launch, many people are taking advantage of this service, which indicates that this is a critical need. Our plan is to operate this service for three months.
Total cost for 3 month free medicine delivery project: $50,000
We are resilient and determined to contribute our knowledge and talent to strengthening and healing Israeli society. However, this requires resources.
We thank you for your support in these difficult times.
