What is nursing care insurance?
The idea behind nursing insurance is that people who can function independently will pay a set sum once a month to ensure that they will be taken care of if they are no longer able to do so. It’s not pleasant to think about, but people at any age can find themselves in a “nursing situation” due to a sudden severe illness, for instance. The average cost of nursing care is 15 000 NIS a month. The strain of nursing costs generally arrives out of the blue. Nursing care insurance allows clients to receive monthly insurance payments from an insurance company to cover those fees. Consider it an umbrella for those rainy days. The coverage period is for 60 months (five years) in total.
What is a nursing situation?
An insurance incident in which the client is declared to require nursing due to meeting one or more of the below criteria:
A. A state of mental fatigue established by a specialist.
B. A state of diminished health and ability to function occurring due to an illness, accident, or health abnormality as a result of which the patient is unable to perform a significant portion (at least half) of at least three of the six below operations alone:
•Getting up and sitting down
•Dressing and undressing
•Bathing
•Eating and drinking
•Managing incontinence
•Mobility (an insured person confined to a wheelchair for medical reasons is considered to be disabled in the section on mobility)

Signing up is subject to a medical underwriting assessment. You can file a claim for insurance from the moment your registration is confirmed.
What if I transferred to Meuhedet from a different HMO?
Starting from 1/1/2017, clients who switch HMOs retain continuity of their nursing insurance coverage. That means that if you signed up for the first time for nursing insurance at your HMO in 2006, bring us documentation showing the date of your registration for nursing care insurance to preserve your accumulated seniority. This is to ensure that nursing care insurance does not prevent clients from switching HMOs for fear of losing their accumulated nursing care insurance seniority.
If during the transfer at a post office or on the website of the National Insurance Institute you stated that you had nursing insurance at your previous HMO, we registered you automatically for Meuhedet Nursing and you have been charged premiums since your transfer to Meuhedet. We register clients automatically once we receive confirmation from the company that insured you.
During registration, you will be asked to bring the following documents from your insurance company:
- Authorization from the insurance company that you had nursing care insurance and from which dates (currently, Clalit clients are insured by Harel and Leumit clients are insured by Clal).
- Confirmation of nursing insurance claim payments from another HMO as well as the duration of the payments (in order to calculate how much time to subtract from the 60 months of coverage) or a document showing that the client did not receive payments.
If during the transfer you stated that you did not have nursing insurance or did not know whether you had nursing insurance, we did not register you for Meuhedet Nursing.
Ready to sign up? Contact the Meuhedet Nursing hotline at *3833 Ext. 2 To sign up, fill out the medical declaration. Phoenix Ltd, which insures Meuhedet Nursing clients, will assess your claim.
What if you stated that you did not know whether you had nursing insurance at your previous HMO, but then it turns out that you did? No problem, but let us know soon: you are eligible to join Meuhedet Nursing with your accumulated seniority from the previous HMO. Fill out the registration form and submit the information required from the insurance company within 180 days of your transfer to Meuhedet.
Start a chat with a representative anytime or contact our telephone hotline at *3833 to receive answers to your questions or sign up for the insurance plan,
Clients who receive a nursing pension or who are already in a nursing situation are not eligible to register under the terms stated here. Soldiers and prisoners may register for nursing insurance according to the terms of the policy.
Why should I sign up for nursing insurance if I’m still young?
-Because people of any age can face a situation in which they need nursing care.
-Because the younger you are, the more likely it is you will be accepted. Since generally younger people tend to be healthier, they have an easier time passing insurance companies’ medical underwriting assessments.
-Because the younger you register, the lower your fees: it’s free until the age of 19!
-Because the amount of benefits received are set according to your age at registration, the earlier you sign up, the more benefits you receive.
